Charlotte! Given its rapid growth rate due to the influx of “baby boomers” into southwest Florida, the population of Harbour Heights has expanded in recent years to 700+ households. The welfare of the community is monitored and promoted by an active Harbour Heights Civic Association. Its relatively secluded location at the eastern end of Harborview Drive makes Harbour Heights a peaceful enclave free from traffic while still within close driving distance of local supermarkets, banks, gas stations, and the commercial activities of Kings Highway and the Tamiami Trail. The community is only one mile east of I-75, permitting quick travel north to Tampa or south to Naples. Within reasonable driving distance are Sarasota and Fort Myers, both of which support a broad range of cultural activities. The principal attractions of Harbour Heights are environmental in nature. The community is liberally criss-crossed by navigable canals, permitting boat owners immediate access to the Peace River and thereby to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. These activities are further supported by a boat ramp and docks whereby even non-waterfront residents of the community can get access to the water. Periodic nautical events are promoted by the Harbour Heights Yacht Club. Local wild life includes dolphins, manatees, and the occasional alligator spotted within the canals, as well as extensive and colorful egret rookeries up the Peace River. Numerous local golf courses with access by the public are available within a few minutes driving distance. The local community park provides facilities for tennis, shuffleboard, and volleyball. Other activities include meetings by the Harbour Heights Horticultural Society and periodic social get-togethers hosted by the Civic Association. As regards schooling, the Deep Creek Elementary School is located at the western entrance to HH, while the Punta Gorda Middle and Charlotte High Schools are a short bus ride away. Harbour Heights is a delightful place to live! If you are not already living here, we hope you will consider becoming a member of our community and of the Civic Association! |
